What is a Life Group?
A Life Group is a group made up of 12-20 people who meet weekly to share, study and support one another. A trained leader and host facilitate each group. The goal of every Life Group is spiritual growth, but we believe that’s best accomplished in a safe, caring and fun environment.
How important are Life Groups?
Here at Calvary Chapel of Prescott our focus is on studying the Bible on Sundays and Wednesdays, and then putting it into action through the Life Groups. So… they are extremely important! We call them “Life Groups” because it is literally where we do life together!
When and where do they meet?
Life Groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the Quad City area. Groups meet for about 2 hours. Evening groups start at either 6 or 6:30 pm. Sunday afternoon groups start between 3 and 4:00 pm.
What is a typical meeting like?
Each group has its own “personality” but still follow the same basic pattern: there’s 30 minutes for food and fellowship, then about an hour is spent on the sermon discussion questions. Groups close the evening with about 30 minutes of sharing and prayer.
What will we talk about?
Life Groups discuss questions based on the previous Sunday’s message. The emphasis is on practical application. People share what has (or hasn’t!) worked for them personally in striving to be more Christ-like. These sermon-based Life Groups are built on what is called a “Lecture-Lab” model. Imagine the weekend message as a lecture on Christian living, and the Life Group as a lab where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the weekend’s message works in real life. Each week there will be a series of Bible passages and questions on the sermon note sheet to study before the meeting. It will usually take 20 to 40 minutes per week to complete the homework.
Do we do anything in the community?
Yes indeed! Each Group spends time during the season spreading the love of Christ to our community. They actively participate in various projects that fulfill the Calvary Chapel of Prescott vision of “Win – Equip – Release”. They range from hospital visitations to full-blown construction projects – the possibilities are endless, fun, and rewarding!
What about childcare?
The Life Groups discussions are for adults only. However, some groups are designated “child friendly” and provide a safe and supervised environment in the home away from the discussion area. For all other groups, we leave it up to each family to work out their own child care. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap child care with another family whose Life Group meets on a different evening.
How do I choose a group?
You will probably choose a group based on the time and location that works best for you. Most of our groups are a diverse mixture of age and Christian maturity. If you are seeking a particular balance within a group, we can assist you in the selection. If you have any questions (especially if you are new to Calvary Chapel of Prescott), please don’t hesitate to call the church, and we will gladly assist you. Keep in mind that it might take two or three groups before you find the perfect fit, but don’t worry, you’ll find it.
How do I sign up for a group?
Before each Life Group season begins there will be sign-up cards in the seat backs in the sanctuary, at the Welcome Booth and at the Life Group sign-up station at the back of the Sanctuary. During the weekend services, Life Group staff members are available at the sign-up station to help you choose a group and answer any questions. There are four sign-up weekends before the beginning of our seasons.
What if I have more questions?
You can call the church office at any time to speak to a Life Group staff member who can assist you in finding and signing up for a group, or answer any questions. (928)778-7642.
